Australia: Department of Foreign Affairs
Australia imposes two different sanctions programs: The UN Security Council Sanctions, which as a member nation, Australia is legally bound to carry out; and, their own “autonomous sanctions” which the Australian Government chooses to take as a response to situations of international concern. The two programs are as follows:
United Nations Security Council Sanctions Regimes
- Designations are incorporated into a Consolidated List maintained by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
- individuals or entities placed on the list, must have their assets frozen
- Once an individual or entity is placed on the List it becomes a criminal offense to deal with their assets make assets available to them
Foreign Affairs Office (1373)
- Designations are incorporated into a Consolidated List
- Minister of Foreign Affairs may also list a person or entity on a case by case basis if he is satisfied they are associated with terrorism
- Once an individual or entity is placed on the list it becomes a criminal offense to deal with their assets or make assets available to them
