Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) Compliance

All U.S. based businesses must comply with the Department of Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control’s (OFAC) requirements against doing business with targeted foreign countries, terrorists, international narcotics traffickers and those engaged in activities related to the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. OFAC administers a number of U.S. economic sanctions and embargoes that target geographic regions and governments and also publishes a list called the Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons (SDN list).

All U.S. persons are prohibited from dealing with SDNs wherever they are located and all SDN assets must be blocked. Because OFAC's programs are dynamic and constantly changing, your customers must be checked against OFAC’s most current list. If a match is found, you are obligated to investigate the quality of the match and eliminate anything that is a false positive. If you have a direct match, or more than one criterion that collaborates a possible match, you are obligated to report it immediately to OFAC at 1-800-540-6322.

ATTUS’ WatchDOG® Pro solution permits you to easily and efficiently check your customers against OFAC's most current listing of SDNs.

The Office of Foreign Assets Control administers and enforces economic sanctions programs primarily against countries and groups of individuals, such as terrorists and narcotics traffickers. The sanctions can be either comprehensive or selective, using the blocking of assets and trade restrictions to accomplish foreign policy and national security goals.
